Application(s) Short acting intravenous anaesthetic agent used for the induction of general anaesthesia and for sedation for short procedures such as reduction of dislocated joints and cardioversion.
Mechanism of Action Binds at a distinct binding site associated with a Cl- ionopore at the GABA(A) receptor, increasing the duration of time for which the Cl- ionopore is open.
Mechanism of Action The post-synaptic inhibitory effect of GABA in the thalamus is, therefore, prolonged.
