Research Area: Cardiovascular Disease Biological Activity: Fluvastatin sodium (Lescol) is an orally active, potent and competitive HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor with an IC50 of 70 nM for vascular smooth muscle proliferation in vitro. (IC50 = 40 -100 nM at human liver microsomes). It exhibits antihyperchole-sterolemic and antioxidant activity in vivo. Fluvastatin Sodium is used to reduce LDL-cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglycerides, and to increase HDL-cholesterol, in the treatment of hyperlipidaemias, including hypercholesterolaemias and combined (mixed) hyperlipidaemia (type IIa or IIb hyperlipoproteinaemias).
