  • A method for conversion of primary amines to isocyanates avoiding the use of phosgene is illustrated by the reaction of this diamine with CO2 at atmospheric pressure in the presence of triethylamine. Subsequent dehydration of the intermediate carbamate anion with POCl3 gives the diisocyanate in 90% isolated yield: J. Chem. Soc., Chem. Commun., 957 (1994).
