Applications: Used in sequencing, denaturing polyacrylamide gels, and nucleic acid hybridization. The degradation products of formamide (formic acid and ammonia) can cause the breakdown of nucleic acids, so formamide should be deionized prior to use with approx. one gm mixed bed ion-exchange resin/100 ml formamide.
