Biochem/physiol Actions Thiamine is a precursor of thiamine diphosphate, a coenzyme for enzymes that catalyse two-carbon unit transfer reactions by enzymes such as pyruvate dehydrogenase and 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase; branched-chain α-keto acid dehydrogenase; 2-hydroxyphytanoyl-CoA lyase and transketolase. Thiamine is added to a variety of plant cell cultures to enhance processes such as shoot formation. |
